How it works

Our service centres on a fabric-first and whole-house approach to home retrofit, supporting you to increase the energy efficiency of your home.

Once you register your home, our dedicated Retrofit Coordinator team will support you through the process, including details of what free surveys are currently available.

The Retrofit Assessment Stage

Our expert assessors will use this opportunity to gather as much information as possible about your house, so that we have all the high quality data we need to make informed recommendations. This includes everything from the energy and thermal performance of your house, to all of the necessary planning permissions required, as well as a detailed look at the building’s construction and its layout.

We’ll also take a look at its performance in-use, to ensure we know exactly how your house behaves as you live in it day to day.

Whole House Plan

Your Retrofit Coordinator will then use this information to develop a bespoke Whole House Plan for your home.

They will detail all the measures you could take to make your home as energy efficient as possible, with recommendations on the most cost-effective and impactful measures to take forward, and in which order.

What costs are involved?

Every home is different, so the cost of a whole house retrofit can vary greatly based on the type of home and the measures needed. The indicative fees for our Rethink Retrofit process are
outlined below:
EPC / EPC+ £75 – £250
Retrofit Assessment & Whole House Plan – £275 – £1475
Project Management of retrofit work – 10% of net contract value

North Yorkshire Council and partners are about to launch a small scale demonstrator scheme to provide a limited number of free retrofit assessments for residents in the Harlow and St Georges, Oatlands and Pannal, and Stray, Woodlands and Hookstone electoral divisions. You can check your potential eligibility for this scheme by postcode if you complete the proposal form.
